Brows... Ugh.

Out of all the tutorials I've watched, the instruction articles, the pictures, the attempts I've made myself, there's one place where I just can't seem to get it right. My eyebrows. I have very thin, very light, eyebrows. I joke that I have like 6 eyebrow hairs and no one can see them cause they're white. It's not quite that bad but it's not that far off. They're very sparse, I could easily count each hair. And they are very light, especially towards the outside of the eye. What's worse (to me) is that they're different shapes. I know, everyone's is, but mine are noticeably so. My left eyebrow is straight, there's no arch to it at all. My right eye has a defined arch, but where it tapers down, there's almost no hairs and they're very, very light.

I've tried filling them in with pencil, they look drawn on and bad. I've tried using the powder, and they end up looking weird, because the powder's on my skin, not the hairs. I've tried a mix of the two and it's closer but still doesn't look like a full eyebrow. I've thought of the different syrums and stuff like that to make the hairs grow, but it seems like it's too good to be true, so I don't bother spending my money on it. So for now, nothing changes, but it's annoying to not have that fully finished look when I'm done.

Hmm.

Once again, trial and error. Not sure which is which tonight though.

I checked what I had posted last, and no, I wasn't able to return it. I did find though, if I used very, very tiny amounts, with the light powder that I have already, it blended nicely. It still doesn't give me the coverage that I want though.

Yesterday I went in to MAC and I told them what I'm looking for in a foundation and what my skin is like. They suggested a foundation and the lady applied it to part of my face (I had a baseball hat on and there was no way I was taking it of... Bad hair is an understatement). Lo and behold, it did do exactly what I want. For $37. Luckily for me, they were *completely* out of it, so the lady gave me a healthy sample of my shade to use until they get more stock in, and they'll call me. I'm hoping I can fit it in to the budget when I get the call.

As well, a few weeks ago, while I was at the grocery store, there was a make up kit, no brand name, just 2 shadow pallets, eye liner, lip liner, glitter powder, mascara, blush pallet and glitter liquid eye liner. The mascara got thrown out, it was all clumpy and gross and I like the mascara I'm currently using (Cover Girl Exact Eyelights in Black Ruby for green eyes). Tonight, I played again.

The pictures, however, suck. So there are no pictures I'm putting up. I did a brown/steel grey smokey eye with the glitter liquid liner lining the top lid and black on the waterline, blush and pinkish-nude lips. I think it turned out really well and I like it for going out some place fun. Definitely not for work though.

Demmit...

So, the foundation I found in my bags doesn't give all that great coverage, unless I put it on really heavy. And then I end up with the line around my face and I hate that. So while I was out today, I picked up TruBlend .... I got the second lightest cause I'm a little tanned from the summer still. It was soooooooooo dark on my face. It didn't look anything like it did in the bottle. I don't know if I can return it or not, or if I'm out the money. It'd be nice if I could find foundation that gave me good coverage that blended with my skin tone. Any of the light, light, lightest foundations I find are either too pink or too yellow on me and the next colour up is way too dark.

The hunt continues!

New toys

So, while I was out picking some stuff up at the Wal-Mart for halloween, I saw a little thing in their art area. I picked it up and I'll be going back for others. There's a small pallet and a bunch of different brushes. Angled, small point, long points, etc. I don't know the names of them all. But since all I had before for brushes was the little brush you get in the waterpaint colouring books, it's great. What I really wanted was the pastels though. I remember playing with those in school and loving the texture and how easily the colours blended. So I'll be going back for them for sure, hopefully tomorrow.

In the meantime, I have to work tomorrow, I don't want to go in, I don't feel good, but I'm excited about playing with colours. :)
Ok, so I didn't get to play with very much today. Or yesterday... I think...

I'm on some pretty heavy medication because of a back problem and I have a hard time with remembering stuff when I take them. On top of that, my boyfriend gave me a headcold. :( So now I feel like crap and my head feels like it's 8 sizes too big.

Also, and this is kind of weird. My eyelids have hurt a lot since playing around the other day. I don't know if I just rubbed them too much, or if it's something chemical. I did use a lot of different products. So, I'm going to be more gentle when rubbing my face and I'm going to try the products one at a time and see if it's something along those lines.

Make it a great day!

Pin-up attempt #1

Well, I did manage to play a bit again, thanks to the easy makeup remover and disposable face cloths and stuff. So I decided to play a bit. I loaded up Kandee's pin up tutorial and listened to it a few times more. Then I started copying. Yay for the pause button. I don't have the same quality of eye shadows and I don't have the same colours, but I just went for more the same type of colour. Highlighting, greyish, dark, etc.

I have fairly heavy eyelids and they fold over to nearly touching my lash line, so I did have a bit of an issue with the wing tip. The one worked out really well, but the other... not so much, and it ended up in the right shape, but quite a bit larger than the first. It also doesn't help that when I don't have so much weight on my eyelids, they actually fold in different shapes, so I've always had an issue getting my eyes to look the same.

So, yeah. It's my first attempt at anything that isn't my kids halloween make up or my daily make up which is normally mascara, a bit of light shadow and a neutral lip colour. I think all in all, it came out much better than I expected.

Make it a great day!

Well, I did get to play a little bit today. And I may play again some more, later on. I realized something I had forgotten a long time ago.

A while ago, I had gone with a friend to a bridal show (she was getting married in a few months time at that point) and we both put our name in to win a free makeup basket from Mary Kay. Neither of us won, but we did get a Mary Kay beauty consultant calling to schedule a session with us. Well, we got it scheduled and worked out, and the lady came to my house to play makeup with us. My two girls of course loved this completely. Long story short, I signed up to be a Mary Kay consultant and purchased their beginning kit. Long story even shorter, I went to one meeting, found out that I couldn't wear pants (all consultants had to wear knee-length skirts) and that I had to be 100% made up every moment of every day, even if I was just running to the corner store for milk and decided that this wasn't for me. I enjoy my jeans very much and I break out far too easily to be caked in make up every waking moment, on top of the fact that I'm a working mother and don't have the time to be continuously touching up. I'm just not the perfect type.

Anyway... That was a long story. To the point! I got my make up. :D And I promptly put it away and forgot about it. Today, I was going through more of Kandee's videos as well as Michelle Phan's and upset and bothered by the fact that I don't have foundation.

I haven't worn foundation in years. Like I mentioned above, I break out really easily, my pores show up horribly with foundation and I can *never* find the right colour for my skin tone. It's always too pink or too dark. Well, I remembered today that I had the Mary Kay makeup stored away and I pulled that sucker out. I found a bunch of foundations, some mascara, hand cleansers and moisturizers and face cleansers. Well that was like hitting the jackpot! My daughters so thoughtfully emptied my *brand new* face cleanser and I found a foundation that is very, very close to my skin tone, but doesn't give very much coverage, so my pores still show through a lot. I'll have to pick up more another day, but this gives me something to play with in the meantime. :D

Also, I found an eye makeup remover (I *just* ran out of mine a few days ago) and disposable face cloths for doing sessions. Well, I painted my eyes up as dark as I could, 4 or 5 layers of mascara, dark eyeliner, dark shadow, dark brows, etc. and I used some of the eye makeup remover with a disposable face cloth to test how good the remover is. WOW! The face cloth was super soft, I'm glad I've got 50 of them, and they're huge! And the remover? Double WOW! It didn't irritate my eyes at all, and it removed EVERYTHING! My normal remover would always leave a bit of the eyeliner and mascara on, just the thinnest layer, but enough that it wasn't completely gone. I'm totally happy with my finds!

Make it a great day!
